Welcome. I’m so glad that you are here.

However you found yourself at my website, I am thrilled that you have arrived at this space!

***Currently, I am not accepting new clients as I transition my office out of Pleasanton. Please check back for more updates.***

Choosing a therapist can cause some anxiety, but as I like to remind folks, it’s OK to check and see how someone fits with you (and that might even take a couple of sessions and a couple of different therapists to find the right one) - you want to feel comfortable, but also a little bit challenged.

My desire is that you feel heard, supported, and that you know I am committed to providing a non-judgmental environment with authentic connection. We work together collaboratively to bring insight, challenge unhealthy patterns, improve well-being, and move through your stuck places.

What about COVID-19?

We follow local guidelines by observing social distancing protocols, regularly sanitizing high-touch surfaces, and running air purifiers regularly.

Please contact me to discuss what would work best for you during COVID-19.

What’s your story?

My name is Shannon Hansen Wong and I am a Bay Area native, having lived all over including Oakland, San Leandro, Pleasanton, and most recently in SF with my husband. I love the Bay Area but also recognize how pace of life, expectations, cost of living, and societal pressures can affect us and render us complacent, anxious, or isolated and withdrawn.

I graduated from Western Seminary in 2016 with a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy. It was there that I learned how to integrate psychology with Biblical theology. Many years have passed and many clients have come to me since then which have all informed my eclectic therapy style and approach. Some clients desire Christian counseling, which I am trained and proficient in, but probably about 50% of my clients request a neutral, non-religious approach which I am happy to provide and am equally as proficient in. I am trauma-informed and often see through the lens of trauma, as well as attachment. I employ a mix of cognitive behavioral therapy, including dialectical behavioral therapy, Gestalt, depth-oriented, psychodynamic, and Internal Family Systems. Do I have a favorite? Yep, all of them! Most importantly, though, I am relational and want my clients to feel like that I care about them and whatever they’re bringing to therapy.

Do you do Christian Counseling?

Christian Counseling (aka biblical counseling and/or Christian psychology) is done in the framework of combining the Christian faith with the principles of psychology to improve mental health and relationships. I do offer a Christian faith-based approach along with professional training in psychotherapy to anyone that would like that. That said, I do not solely do Christian counseling, and in fact, only integrate it at the client’s request. My clients come to me from all faith backgrounds, various political viewpoints, and sexual identities - and I welcome them.

 What are your fees?

My standard session is 50 minutes and is $150 for individuals and $180 for couples and families.

Many couples and families find that 50 minutes is too short and arrange to set up a 75 minute session. The fee for these extended sessions is $250 and must be arranged ahead of time.

Free 15 minute consultation: Please contact me for a consultation where we can determine if we would be a good fit.

Sliding Scale/Reduced Fee: I reserve a number of reduced-fee time slots for eligible clients subject to availability and eligibility.

Cancellation Policy: Your appointment is a commitment of my time, reserved especially for you. Please provide at least 48 hours of notice of any appointment changes or cancellations to avoid a full session fee being charged. If you do not appear for your scheduled appointment, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session. Thank you for being mindful of this policy.

Do you take insurance?

I am not on any insurance panels at this time, but am considered an “out-of-network” provider. I do not bill directly to insurance companies, however, your therapy services may be covered in part or in full by your health insurance or employee benefits. Best practice is for you to contact your insurance company (often on the back of your insurance card) and ask about their reimbursement policy and if they have a number of sessions they authorize. I would provide you with a Superbill (which insurance often requires a diagnosis code and CPT codes) that you would then submit to. your insurance company for any possible reimbursement they deem you eligible for.

Contact me.

I offer a free 15 minute consultation
